Traumatic Growth

Book and Bench

This Week's Pondering:

We've all heard of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD); but have you heard of Post Traumatic GROWTH?

I wonder how many of us have experienced this.

PTSD, is a stress response that was initially stimulated during a traumatic event. A current occurrence like a sound, smell, taste, feeling, interaction, or situation triggers that same emotion and reaction in our bodies and behaviors as the initial event. (e.g. you hear a pop, you jump.)

PTG works similarly but in the opposite way. Try this:

  • Think back to a time you made a BIG and necessary change because of an event that happened to you (being fired from a job, an eviction, divorce, a death);

  • We’re looking for something that stimulated you to grow.

  • How were you forced to grow?

  • What did you learn about the world around you?

  • How did you change for the better because of the event?

  • Where did you wind up because of the event?

  • What did you learn about yourself?

  • How do you treat yourself, others, and the world at large differently now that the event occurred?

Welcome to Post Traumatic Growth.

Something traumatic may have happened to you, but instead of triggering a negative body reaction, it inspired you to make a big move toward PERSONAL GROWTH and your own developmental process.

I'm curious: Have you ever experienced this? Reply to this newsletter and let's chat!

SURPRISE:

In April, I'M SWITCHING THINGS UP!

I'm going to try something new. Currently, my Brooke Bites are being sent through my website, but I'm noticing loads of weird things happening there (e.g. I have about a dozen subscribers who's email address have to do with hormone replacements - so, I'm pretty sure I have bot subscribers - YUK!).

I've uploaded all of my HUMAN subscribers (that's YOU) to my business email account, and will try sending out my BB's each week through there! Let's see how it works out!

If you hate it and wish to unsubscribe, simply email and let me know.

And if you love it and want to stay in touch, also, LET ME KNOW!
