This Week's Pondering
Q: What do you consider to be the most complex emotion to work through?
A: Nostalgia.
This past weekend, I was able to go to the Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque for the first time with my boyfriend, Joe. He grew up in Albuquerque, so this has been his family tradition. While I was seeing everything with fresh eyes, he was able to show me around. It was a unique experience with moments of genuine wonder and awe.
During our drive home, I thought of many of my experiences from childhood and even adulthood. The people who are no longer with me, my old stomping grounds, the traditions of my family. When Joe and I arrived home, there was busyness to take care of. We needed to unload the camper and prepare for our week ahead.
I felt a heaviness, which I labeled "sadness," but when I sat with the emotion (which I've learned to do rather than try to change or move out of it), I noticed nostalgia. Nostalgia is complex because I want to let go and hold on at the same time.
Now it’s your turn. I want to know, what emotion do you feel is the most complicated to work through, and why?
