This Week's Pondering:

Q: What unique holidays do you celebrate?

A: Dr. Seuss Day!

Being a writer, Dr. Seuss day is especially special to celebrate! Today is his birthday! HBD, Theodor Seuss Geisel!

Here are some fun facts about Dr. Seuss:

  • He wrote more than 60 children's books with more than 600 MILLION copies printed and translated into more than 20 different languages!

  • He started as a political cartoonist - many of which were very poignant to WWII and quite controversial in some circles!

  • He received TWENTY SEVEN rejection letters before landing his first children's book publication!

  • His books were recently reviewed by the estate, who found much of his writings and illustrations to be politically incorrect, pulling them from the market.

  • For a while some of his titles were being stolen from libraries, and individual books were going for more than $1000 each!

The schools in my district celebrate Dr. Seuss Day and all the students wear Cat in the Hat hats and create silly rhymes to commemorate the renowned author. My favorite title is Fox in Socks, which I've been reading since I learned how, and I now have mostly memorized!

Your turn: I really do love hearing from you. What funky holiday do you celebrate? Tell me a little about it by replying to this email!
